Palau stands in the wide scenary of the international turism, where it occupies a very important position. This territory has been shaped by the weather that created some of the most famous Sardinian natural shapes. The most famous is the "Bear" which gives the name to the omonymous Cape, on the Archipelago of Maddalena, in front of the island of Santo Stefano. The name "Palau" derives from the word "parago", then "parao", that was used by the fishermen in Ancient times to indicate the places sheltered from the wind and the sea. The region has been recently inhabited, being intact for a long time. The oldest document dates back to 1875 and it is still visible in a plate put in a chimney-top of an old house in the historical village centre. Palau has a nice harbour from which is possible to reach La Maddalena and from where start the excursions to the Archipelago. Palau is accessible in only 40 minutes from Olbia and it is half-way between Santa Teresa di Gallura and Porto Cervo.  continue
