The name "Ogliastra" is derived from a huge monolith called "Agugliastra", that rise from the sea of Santa Maria Navarrese or, according to other voices, it is derived from the olive tree very common in this territory. The area is bounded on the north by the Supramonte and the river Codula di Luna and on the south by the rises of Jerzu and by the Salto di Quirra.
The coast of Ogliastra si different from the others of Sardinia because of the contrast between the mountains and the sea, uncontaminated, dominated by high cliffs made red by the red porphyry of the rocks.
The nature is wild reach in Mediterranean macchia and the coast is reach in creeks and hidden bays, often accessible only by sea, such as Cala Mariolu, Cala Sisine, Cala Luna e Cala Goloritzé, little paradises surrounded by amazing landscapes.
Pure white sand beaches and emerald, blue crystal clear sea. Ogliastra can be considered the purer part of Sardinia, where it is possible to discover the ruins of the past:Domus de Janas, Giants'Tomb, Menhir and Nuraghs.
In Ogliastra is possible to visit the only Massif of Sardinia: the Gennargentu, where it is possible to make some interesting excursions.
